Hello,

I know this has been asked before, but I’ve searched many web sites and reviews and I’m still confused. So, I’ve narrowed it down to Hostmonster, Bluehost, and Lunarpages. I’m a pretty technical guy, but I’m looking for a reliable web host for multiple domains that some will use databases. I’m not so concerned about a “simple” web site creator, as opposed to one that follows the HTML & CSS standards. I was going to go with 1&1 after seeing their huge ads in PC Magazine until I read the reviews. Thus, I’m not so concerned about cheap, just a service that is reliable, professional, and popular. In other words, what service would a developer recommend and use?

Let me recommend 1and1.com and believe me you won’t regret. I’m a web designer and I’ve seen so many hosts that are really bad. 1and1 will give you a great package for $ 3.99 per month including 1 free domain name. They also give you up to 600 (!!!) email accounts and 10 databases in case you need them (included in the $ 3.99 per month).

SECURITY. I am a huge windows person but in web hosting, Linux beats. it is almost impossible to hack into a Linux

what is the best web cam hosting out there?

have 2 web cams setup to a pc with hi-speed dsl. already in place and working. i need guidance on the best/low priced service that can host these cams to the net. it will be used to monitor animals in a shelter.

If you are looking for a low priced solution that is easy to deploy and yet dependable, then I would suggest that you NOT use the 2 web cams. While they might be fun for IM chats and such, they really aren’t that useful in an environment in which they might be jostled, bumped and otherwise discombobulated and require intervention by nearby staff members who may or may not have a clue about how to troubleshoot computers.

Instead, may I suggest that you take a look at a dedicated network web camera? These devices have their own internal web server (meaning that you can just log into the camera from the Internet using a web browser) and are self-contained so you don’t need to dedicate a computer to serving our video or pictures.

I did a review of some higher-end cameras from Axis Communications which you can find at http://www.thetechstop.net/?page_id=111 — If you are looking for a lower cost solution, take a look at the ones from Linksys or D-Link… they all pretty much work the same way… the only difference is image quality.

Any cheep computer will do. Did you know, they even had Web servers when there was nothing more than 486s?!!!

Get yourself a copy of Apache, setup your firewall to direct those packets to your Web server and go for it.

I am a Web Designer who also hosts sites for my clients. Our plans are unlimited which allow you to have as many videos and photos as you need. So, make sure you get an unlimited disc space plan! You should also ask what their server load limits are. Many hosts will sell space on their servers until it’s close to full making it difficult for your site to load quickly! That is a little known fact. I’ve got some great, inexpensive solutions to help you if you are looking for a Web Designer also.
